Soybean futures jumped on Wednesday after President Trump posted on Truth Social: “I’ll be meeting with President Xi, of China, in four weeks, and Soybeans will be a major topic of discussion. It’s all going to work out very well. The Soybean Farmers of our Country are being hurt because China is, for ‘negotiating’ reasons only, not buying.” Senator John Hoeven (R-N.D.) has said he did not think there was a specific timeline for China to resume purchases of U.S. soybeans following a briefing on Tuesday with U.S. Ambassador to China David Perdue. Wednesday’s strong price move reiterated how responsive the market will be if there’s an actual trade deal.
